About

Born in Toronto in 1947, Kenneth Cooper developed quickly into a lover of nature and art. Growing up, Kenneth moved around frequently due to his father's career in the Air Force. This led Kenneth to pursue his love of bird watching and exploring the outdoors. These experiences led to different employment throughout the years as; working with a taxidermist, sketching bird and animal mounts at the the Ottawa Museum, and raising orphaned birds.

Kenneth studied formally in art at Fisher Park and Commerce High. He later furthered his art training at Ryerson and Ontario College of Art. In 1978, Kenneth began his professional career showing his artwork at a multitude of exhibitions throughout Ontario, and parts of northern New York State. That year, he was commissioned to do 13 watercolors for the 1980 Shell calendar. Kenneth has also shown his artwork in various galleries. He was chosen to participate in the World Wildlife Fund Auction which was hosted by the Duke of Edinburgh. In 1982, Ken's "Snowy Owl" was selected for a two year tour world wide in a juried exhibition which was sponsored by the Canadian Nature Federation and the National Museum of Natural Science.

In 1983, Kenneth became the organizational founder of the South Mountain Lions Club Arts and Craft show, which is still continuing annually. Kenneth also continues to actively donate his limited edition prints to an abundance of charitable organizations. His involvement and commitment to the Dundas County Ducks Unlimited Division throughout the 1980's led him to be recognized as artist of the year for 1990. Presently residing in Ottawa, and working either in pencil or various color mediums, Kenneth's wildlife drawings display his strong dedication to realism and fine detail. From the gentle silent stare of an owl to the raucous struggle of predator and prey, he captures the romance of birds and animals in harmony with their environment.
